Following its use at the U20 World Cup in Turkey last year, FIFA will provide the men in black with a vanishing spray that will mark out the ten yard limit for players to form a defensive wall. A move that is hoped will prevent encroachment.

England will once again be represented by 2010 World Cup final referee Howard Webb in Brazil, and he has praised the introduction of the spray — which disappears from sight within a minute. But Island referees appear to be a little more reserved, with Jersey’s 2013/14 referee of the year Andy Norman believing it could affect the speed of the game.

Full report in Thursday’s JEP.
