It is the first time that McGhee has been called up to the league’s select squad having been in impressive goalscoring form for his club, with 13 goals in 17 matches.

Cassidy’s side take on Southern Amateur League for a place in the last four on Saturday 29 February 2020 at Springfield (2pm kick off, entry is free).

McGhee’s team mate Arthur Illingworth, who scored in the previous round, and the league’s current top scorer, St Ouen’s Jake Prince, are also both included as is the St Paul’s- registered Fraser Barlow who has been finding the net on a regular basis for Jersey Bulls this season. With St Peter-registered and fellow Bull Sol Solomon also named, the JFA team have a fearsome forward line. However, there is no room in the squad for Bulls top scorer Karl Hinds, who is registered with St Clement.

Cassidy has also called up teenage defender Harry Curtis (St Paul’s/Jersey Bulls), Wanderers goalkeeper Dan Birrell and St Paul’s-registered full-back Jay Giles, whose call-up will mean he is likely to miss his first Bulls game of the season when they travel to Fleet Spurs that same day. Meanwhile, St Paul’s trio Joe Kilshaw, Kieran Lester and Zeljko Martinovic and St Ouen’s Luke Duncan all miss out this time.

‘I’m happy to be able to pick such a strong squad again to give us the best possible chance of progressing further in this exciting competition,’ said Cassidy in a press release. ‘We’re pleased to welcome Logan into the squad – he has earned it and been in good form in front of goal for Wanderers. This is one of the biggest matches we’ve hosted in the Island for some time against a very good team and we’re keen to get a big crowd to Springfield to help push the players into the semis.

‘I like the balance of the squad and the players are looking to go all the way.’ continued Cassidy. ‘We have a really good chance of getting to the final and winning this competition for only the second time in our history.’

Jersey have already beaten the Somerset County League and the Amateur Football Combination to make it through to the last eight. Should they prevail against the Southern Amateur League they will face an away trip in the semi-finals against the winner of the Dorset Premier League and Peterborough & District Football League. The eventual competition winners go on to represent England in the Uefa Regions’ Cup, as Jersey did back in 2013 when they travelled to the tournament in San Marino.
