Bristol chairman Chris Booy has urged top flight clubs to back the proposal when they meet on 13 December, telling The Rugby Paper that he views the current play-off system as ‘unfair’.
The buy-out clause, which could be worth over £1 million to those denied play-off rugby, would ensure the winner of the Championship earns automatic promotion.
Bristol finished top of the table in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015, but lost in the play-offs on each occasion. They finally secured a return to the Premiership last season.
