JERSEY kick boxer Monika Markowska failed in her bid to win a medal at the Light Contact European Championships in Ankara, Turkey.

A bronze medallist last year, the 4th degree black belt and instructor at Cho’s Tae Kwon Do club was defeated at the quarter-final stage by two points.

Markowska said: ‘I can’t hide the disappointment not to have progressed in tournament this year, especially after winning bronze last year. I was part of the WAKO GB Light Contact squad and this year the squad did not win any medals.

‘The standard was very high and at this level there are no bad fighters. We all have great fighting skills, we can all punch and kick and our preparation with the coaches is excellent.'
