Three-time driving offender gets ‘last chance’

During his last appearance, Harry William Sheldon (22), of Clos de la Forge, St Lawrence, was fined £350 and had his licence endorsed after he pleaded guilty to speeding at 44 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Centenier Gregory Guida said that a police officer was conducting a speed check at about 1.30 am on 5 July near the St Laurent pub on Grande Route de St Laurent, when he noticed that the blue Toyota Yaris being driven by Sheldon from the direction of Three Oaks Garage was speeding.

Sheldon apologised for his actions, and said that there was no other traffic around at that time in the morning.

He also said that he did not notice that it was a police officer holding a speed gun and thought it was someone walking a dog.

It was the third time that Sheldon had appeared in court on motoring offences. The last time was in October last year, when he admitted speeding at 61 mph on Victoria Avenue on 8 August 2016.

Sentencing him for his latest speeding offence, Relief Magistrate Sarah Fitz told him: ‘I have to warn you that if you come back to court within three years, you are almost certain to lose your licence.

‘This is very much a last chance.’
