Military enthusiasts remember German soldier killed while on occupation duty

The vice-president of the Channel Islands Occupation Society, Damien Horn, said: ‘He was one of the occupying soldiers at the time when he was killed but over time he has become another figure that was just doing his duty.’

Mr Horn has spent his life building up an extensive collection of Occupation military items, many of which are on display to the public at the Channel Island Military Museum which he runs in a German bunker in St Ouen’s Bay.

In his collections is a wartime ‘death card’ which would have been sent by Obergefreiter Stützle’s parents to family members and friends to inform them of his death. A copy of the card can be seen in the museum inside Batteries Moltke at Les Landes in St Ouen.
