Iconic Memorial Flight grounded by concern over Merlin engines

The historic Second World War aircraft of the BBMF have almost entirely been taken out of action over engine-related safety fears. Appearances at displays in the UK have already been cancelled although it is unclear whether Jersey’s event, which is less than a month away, will be affected.

Earlier this year it was announced that the RAF Red Arrows would not be coming to Jersey for the display for the first time in more than 50 years. The aerobatic display team, which is being replaced by Latvia’s Baltic Bees at Jersey’s event on 14 September, is on a diplomatic mission in Pakistan.

Jersey International Air Display organiser Deputy Mike Higgins was contacted for comment.
