Orange alert at sea

The operation, code-named ‘Orange’, involved the crew of Southampton-based vessel Whitonia and was necessary to ensure that an adequate response can be provided in the event of an oil spillage.

Despite most of the Island’s electricity coming from France through a network of undersea cables, the JEC still maintains a number of oil-fired generators, which can be used in emergencies, and imports heavy fuel oil through the Harbour.
