Abuse victims ‘more confident in coming forward’

Last month, the inquiry published its long-awaited report, which documented decades of systemic child abuse in the Island,with the panel making a string of recommendations for the future of child care in the Island.

Julie Gibney, director of social care at Children’s Services, said that there was a greater confidence among victims of sexual abuse that they would be believed following the report’s publication.

Meanwhile, a programme – Letting the Future In – has been launched in Jersey by the NSPCC designed to help sexually abused children to process their traumatic experiences.
