Advocate fined £1,500 for driving uninsured Lexus

Richard John Charles Wakeham (39), of Rue Hamel, St Clement, admitted driving the vehicle without insurance after the car was spotted with an out-of-date windscreen disc while parked at Jersey Airport on 18 May.

The lawyer said his wife had been dealing with his paperwork while he was on a business trip and so he had been unaware he urgently needed to renew his insurance policy.

He apologised unreservedly to the court for what he described as an ‘administrative oversight’.

‘I received final notice to insure my car shortly before I went abroad. ‘Unfortunately my wife reorganised my paperwork while I was out of the Island on business,’ he said.

The defendant admitted driving the car while uninsured and said that he accepted responsibility for what he did.

Centenier John Camara told the court that when Wakeham went to St Peter’s Parish Hall on 19 May the insurance documents he provided were dated 19 May, which was the day after the out-of-date windscreen disc was noticed.
