Manchester bombing was ‘horrific’ – Gorst

Twenty-two people, including at least two children, were killed in the attack at the Manchester Arena and dozens more were injured.

In a statement, Chief Minister Ian Gorst spoke of the ‘appalling’ nature of the attack, but praised the people of Manchester, including those who opened up their homes to people in the hours after the incident.

He said: ‘I am writing to the UK Prime Minister to pass on our sincere condolences following the horrific attack in Manchester yesterday evening.

‘The targeting of an event attended predominantly by young people makes it all the more appalling and highlights the barbarity of those who perpetrate terrorist acts.

‘It is evident from the stories of people opening their homes to shelter those caught up in the attack that the spirit of the City of Manchester, and of Britain, will remain unbowed.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.’
