Hospital funding plan to get the go-ahead?

Treasury Minister Alan Maclean previously suggested borrowing up to £400 million to fund the project, but a late amendment from the minister instead proposed borrowing a significantly lower amount of £275 million and covering the rest of the project using the Island’s Strategic Reserve – the rainy day fund.

An amendment from the Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel would, if approved, see the States cover the cost of the £466 million hospital using the Strategic Reserve with a system in place for replenishing the funds.

Funding proposals were initially due to be debated in January.

However, the plans were thrown back to Scrutiny for review and the debate has since been delayed a further two times.

This week’s sitting could also see the Treasury Minister forced to bring forward proposals for the States to pay parish rates on its buildings if a proposition from St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft is approved.

In question time, Chief Minister Ian Gorst is set to face four of the ten questions, including one from St John Constable Chris Taylor about the Jersey Innovation Fund.

Senator Gorst is then due to face questions without notice, as is Education Minister Rod Bryans.
