Concerns over abuse inquiry evidence

Ex-St Mary Deputy Daniel Wimberley has also raised major concerns that key evidence could be ‘destroyed’ once the report is released.

The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry is soon to release a report into its findings into child abuse at the Island’s care homes.

Mr Wimberley, who campaigned for a public abuse inquiry to be held, argues that once the report is released, anyone with an interest will want to ‘check the report against the original documents’.

However, he says that the inquiry website does not make it easy to track down key information.

Referring to the inquiry website, Mr Wimberley said that it was ‘very difficult’ to properly analyse and cross-reference the evidence.

He added: ‘The website must be in good order with every document actually present and correct – both documents of evidence and documentation of the workings and decisions of the Inquiry.’

The inquiry has rejected any suggestion that evidence will be destroyed.
