Generous Jersey donates millions to charity

And during the 12-month period £80 million was raised by the 197 local charities which took part in the survey, which was commissioned by the Jersey Community Partnership.

The organisation said that the findings revealed that in spite of tough and uncertain times in the local and worldwide economies, Islanders were still finding the time and money to support charitable causes

A key finding of the survey was that 81 per cent of respondents said that their incomes had increased, or remained the same, since 2014.

Partnership chairman Nigel Smith said: ‘I think it shows just how generous the Island is but also it shows how important the charitable sector is to the Island.’

The survey was sent out in January to charities as well as ‘not-for-profit’ and voluntary organisations, with 46 per cent responding.

When it comes to volunteering, Islanders are most likely to give their time to charities and organisations that advance health, education, charitable relief and sports.
