Occupation film première at the Jersey War Tunnels

Another Mother’s Son tells a heart-warming but ultimately tragic tale which demonstrates the compassion of Islanders during the bleak five years of German rule.

Shopkeeper Louisa Gould took in Russian slave worker Feodor Buryi, affectionately known as Bill, under the noses of the German soldiers. She hid him for months until the Germans were tipped off by another Islander and she, along with her brother, Harold Le Druillenec, and her sister, Ivy Forster, were arrested.

Both Mr Le Druillenec and Mrs Gould were sent to concentration camps, where Mrs Gould died in a gas chamber – just two months before her camp was liberated.

The film, which gives a fictional account of the true story, stars former Boyzone singer Ronan Keating and was written by Mrs Gould’s great-niece, Jenny Lecoat, who gave a speech before the screening.

At the War Tunnels, she said that she felt an enormous sense of responsibility towards Occupation survivors during the production process.
