Fly-tipping costs Island £8,600 over two years

Two weeks ago Deputy Eddie Noel announced the creation of a fly-tipping task force once he has the funding in place.

He wants the money to come from proposed new charges on disposing of rubbish and sewage generated by Island businesses.

It cost Infrastructure £8,634 to clear illegally dumped rubbish between January 2015 and February 2017. However, £5,000 of that amount was spent on dealing with one incident, when bags filled with hazardous asbestos were dumped in a field near Maufant last December.

An investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact Environment Protection on 709535 or to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
