Project to identify men who fought in Burma Campaign

Two years ago Jean McLaughlin was successful in getting recognition for the Jersey soldiers who fought with the British 14th Army in Burma, when a commemorative plaque was unveiled at the foot of Mount Bingham.

Now she wants to add another dimension to the memorial to list the names of the men who served in one of the most notorious theatres of the Second World War.

Mrs McLaughlin says that in the absence of accurate records, she does not know exactly how many local soldiers fought in the Burma Campaign, so she is asking Islanders to get in touch to help with her research. She is also fundraising for the project.

Mrs McLaughlin can be contacted on 721171.
