Cheshire Home launches £2m blueprint for future

Yesterday the Jersey Cheshire Home officially launched its Big Build project – the biggest fundraising initiative the charity has run since Eric Young House, off Mount Bingham, was opened in 1983.

The £2 million will fund improvements to many of the existing facilities and pay for the building of three en-suite rooms and the refurbishment of six existing rooms. A dedicated therapy and treatment room and extra areas for staff will also be created.

£80,000 has already been banked for the project through various donations from individuals and organisations. Two of the biggest donations have come from the Channel Islands Co-op, which has pledged £2,000, and Le Gallais Estates, which has funded the new treatment room.

It costs £6,000 a day to run the home and the average stay for an individual is 15 years. David Lord, general manager for the charity, said that the beds were always in demand and that the extra rooms would help immensely.
