Superfood alternative to Jersey Royal arrives

More than 500 honeyberry plants are acclimatising at Howard Davis Farm in Trinity ahead of planting in the spring. If the trials succeed the face of the countryside could be transformed by more high value and colourful crops to rotate with potatoes.

The return to traditional crop rotation and reduced reliance on chemicals is key to securing the future of the Island’s biggest export crop, according to the Rural Economy Strategy 2017 to 2021, released today by Economic Development and Environment.

The purpose of the 140-page document is to grow the rural economy by encouraging viable and profitable farming practices in the arable and dairy sectors. It also contains statutory measures to make agriculture more environmentally-friendly by reducing pesticide and fertiliser applications.
