Cocaine purity found to vary greatly

Since 2008, over 8.7 kg of the drug has been seized by Customs in 46 separate operations.

One shipment in June 2015 contained eight per cent cocaine but another just five months earlier was found to contain around 83 per cent of the drug.

Steven Le Marquand, head of law enforcement for the service, said that only 22g of the drug had been seized in 2016 and that the purity of all powder-based drugs could vary massively.

As a result he warned that users had no idea of the strength of the drug they were taking or of what else it might contain.
