£746,000 boost for charities

The Association of Jersey Charities receives Jersey’s share of the Channel Islands’ Lottery profits from the Economic Development Department, which it then distributes to projects that will be of benefit to Islanders or the Island as a whole.

This quarter, the association has given £171,408 to nine charities, bringing the total amount it has distributed during 2016 to £746,780.

The Jersey Employment Trust, which assists people with disabilities to find employment, received £30,000 in the latest round of grants, which it will put towards starting a new recycling scheme at La Collette. The Trust hopes to create 20 new jobs for its clients, who will be involved in salvaging, recycling and repairing items that are thrown away.
