Brexit talks with UK held at highest level

Senator Philip Ozouf says that the Island is in ongoing talks with the UK Chancellor Philip Hammond over the future of its finance sector as Britain prepares to leave the EU.

Concerns have grown in recent weeks about how the international finance services business will be affected by Brexit, especially whether the City of London will retain access to lucrative EU markets.

Senator Ozouf, who has responsibility for financial services and digital, said that it was particularly important for Jersey, where finance is a key industry, to keep good relations with the UK at this time.

‘The relations with the UK government are absolutely critical,’ he said. ‘There is no turning back from our relationship with the UK.’
