St Clement hit by invasion of ‘rotting seaweed’ flies

The insects are thought to have settled and bred among seaweed that began to rot after being pushed up by tides against the sea wall recently.

One business owner, Richard Le Masurier, who has an office and workshop for his electrical contractor company at Grève d’Azette, has had to work elsewhere this week because the problem is so bad.

The flies are also causing problems for Nina’s Nails and Beauty, whose owner says she can do nothing to stop the flies coming into her salon when customers open the front door.

De Gruchy & Co, which owns ten properties at Grève d’Azette, has also had complaints from tenants.
