Sea Cadet centre ‘should be used by other groups, too’

The Bosdet Foundation, a charitable organisation which runs Les Ormes in St Brelade, says that some important questions need to be asked about the plan to build the new facility at Les Galots, near the La Collette fuel farm, using money pledged by the States.

The organisation says that under the current plans, the facility is too large for the Sea Cadets alone (who currently have around 65 members and meet twice a week), is in the wrong location because of health and safety concerns associated with having children in an industrial area, and will cost more than the amount already budgeted.

Bosdet, which is keen to support the project financially and with expertise, now wants those involved to reconsider the plans altogether, and is proposing that a youth maritime centre that brings together different organisations for young Islanders could be the best use of the money.
