For the fourth year running the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission is to allocate financial aid to those affected by the ongoing civil war which began in 2011.
The organisation, which receives £10.3 million per year from the States and has already donated more than £1 million to help Syrian refugees, today revealed that it has agreed to direct ‘the bulk of its assistance to humanitarian relief’ to those civilians still living in Syria and in neighbouring countries.
The announcement comes after hospitals, schools and homes in Aleppo have faced numerous airstrikes and bombardments in recent weeks.
Now in its sixth year, the war has claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and injured more than one million.
