‘Jersey’s infrastructure must be protected,’ Gorst tells IoD audience

Senator Ian Gorst was responding to whether utilities should be fully privatised during the Institute of Directors Jersey annual debate, a packed five-hour marathon debate at the Royal Jersey Showground with nine panel members from both the private and public sectors tackling the theme of ‘future-proofing Jersey’.

In terms of migration, Senator Gorst said the Island was not being driven by the Brexit vote in the same way as the UK. ‘Brexit is a risk, there is uncertainty, but there is also great potential,’ he said.

Keynote speaker Ido Aharoni – who created a brand for the nation of Israel – challenged the Island to ‘forget big fancy advertising’ and politics and focus instead on performance, nano-marketing and to ‘define what it is you bring to the table’.
