Police introduce new summer campaign against drink-drivers

A total of 61 motorists were caught drink-driving between May and August last year, which equates to one person every two days across the summer months and 44 per cent of the total caught drink-driving for the entire year.

The summer campaign, which is being run in conjunction with the States police, the Road Safety Panel and the honorary police, will involve officers carrying out more road checks across the Island both during the day and at night.

The States police have bought an extra ten road-side screening kits to support the work and Inspector Paul Smith said that drink-driving was one of the most dangerous crimes motorists could commit, placing themselves and others at risk of serious injury or death.
