Islanders invited to mark Africa day

The dinner has been organised by Lainah Mereki-Penttila (35) and Lesley Katsande-Gwatidzo (33), whose families are both from Zimbabwe.

Africa Day is held on 25 May across the world to mark the founding of the Organisation of African Unity, an international organisation set up to promote unity and development among African nations and it is the second year that an event has been organised by Mrs Mereki-Penttila and Mrs Katsande-Gwatidzo to celebrate Africa Day in Jersey.

Guests – who are encouraged to wear traditional African dress – will be served a three-course meal at the event, to be held at the Radisson Blu hotel on 21 May from 7 pm and the Gambia Beat band will play traditional African music and all the money raised will be donated to Green Light Youth Soccer Academy in Zimbabwe.

Tickets cost £45 and are available from Mrs Mereki-Penttila on 07829 844104 or Mrs Katsande-Gwatidzo on 07700 710602 or by visiting Anagen Afro hairdresser at 2 Dorset Street, St Helier, between Wednesday and Saturday.
