Lost heroes of the Occupation found

Pat Fisher, of Jersey and Jean Harris, of Guernsey travelled to Germany and the Czech Republic earlier this year following a breakthrough by Cambridge academic Dr Gilly Carr, which laid to rest more than 70 years of speculation about what had become of the two men.

Joseph Tierney, Mrs Fisher’s father, and Joseph Gillingham, Mrs Harris’s father, were both arrested and deported for spreading ‘seditious information’ while German forces controlled the islands.

The discovery of their final resting places has formed the basis of a documentary called ‘Finding our fathers – Lost heroes of WWII’, which is due to be broadcast at 7.30 pm on Friday on BBC One South West.
