Anger over ‘insensitive’ War Tunnels escape game

Jersey War Tunnels recently revealed details of the new attraction in which teams must work together in order to ‘escape’ from a German Commandant’s office – The Escape Tunnel and will offer groups of four to eight people the chance to complete puzzles, unlock chests and solve clues to make it out of a locked room within one hour.

However, the move has prompted controversy and divided public opinion, with some people, including the son of a forced worker who was brought to Jersey during the Occupation, condemning the plans.

Jersey War Tunnels, however, says the attraction will provide a ‘gripping educational experience’ that is part game, part theatre and part team-building experience, and they have had support from a large number of online commentators, as well as respondents to a JEP poll in which 73 per cent of people agreed it was an interesting way to engage with the past, while just one quarter of voters felt the proposals were insensitive.
