Welcome mat is out for Geoff’s return

Unplanned maintenance work near the otter enclosure at the wildlife park and the recent bad weather had delayed plans to reintegrate Geoff with his fellow south-east-Asian short-clawed otters sooner, however everything is now in place and the keepers hope to begin the reintroduction at the weekend.

Geoff broke free from his enclosure at the start of December and made the three-mile trip to St Catherine’s Woods, where he lived off fish and small rodents.

Traps containing shellfish and rigging with cameras were set up in an attempt to capture him, and the creature was eventually caught and taken back to the park in January and he has since been living apart from his family in quarantine.
