Geoff the otter still a stranger to his family

The south-east-Asian clawed otter broke free from his enclosure last December and made his way to St Catherine’s Wood.

When he was recaptured in mid-January, Geoff spent time in quarantine to ensure that he had not picked up any diseases on his travels, and is now being kept separate from his group and staff at Durrell also feared that he may be rejected by his family, because in his absence a new alpha male may have taken his place.

It had been hoped that Geoff would be reintegrated at the end of February but this has been delayed due to works being undertaken in the otter enclosure.
