Civil service pair spend £13,000 of taxpayers’ money on business class flights

Economic Development chief executive Mike King and Locate Jersey’s director of inward investment Wayne Gallichan – one of the men responsible for attracting super-rich immigrants to Jersey – spent £6,442 each on return flights to the Investing in African Mining Indaba conference in Cape Town.

Given the financial challenges currently facing the States, the cost has been described as inappropriate and ‘unnecessarily high’ by Economic Development Minister Lyndon Farnham, who said he did not know how much the pair had spent on flights.

He has now reminded staff within the department to ‘exercise prudence’ when making travel arrangements.
