Changes to planning law could affect construction industry, warn experts

The Jersey Construction Council, which represents the sector, has spoken out ahead of a breakfast debate on Tuesday at which Environment Minister Steve Luce, Housing Minister Anne Pryke, UK property expert David Parker and Island Plan project manager Ralph Buchholz will discuss planned changes.

Several States initiatives designed to bolster housing provision and community improvement have been announced recently. These include a potential new charge for developers to generate funds for social housing and the regeneration of St Helier, and wider use of Planning Obligation Agreements – a device which sees developers contribute to infrastructure as a condition of their planning permission – to bring about community improvements in the Island.

These topics and Jersey’ housing strategy are due to be discussed at the Radisson Blu Hotel from 8 am on Tuesday.
