Around the islands: Guernsey couple who spent £50k lottery winnings in a year face eviction

Jamie and Abbie Hort spent up to £70 a day on food and even treated themselves to a shopping trip to Jersey after winning second prize in the Christmas lottery in 2014.

But the money ran out just before Christmas and they were evicted from their privately rented home.

To secure accommodation over the festive period they raided their savings – but that money has now run out and they want to be put back on benefits.

Mr Hort claims that Guernsey’s Social Security Department are refusing to help them as they believe the couple still have £24,000.
