How would you describe your leadership style?

I try to create an environment that provides a sense of comfort to our team; to be the secure base that offers a sense of protection, a source of energy and inspiration to explore, take risks and seek positive change.

What qualities should a senior manager possess in today’s corporate world?

Tenacity, curiosity, thoughtfulness, humour and humility. And maybe decisiveness.

What was your first job and how did you climb the ladder?

I started as a management trainee in our food business in Jersey. I have always had a strong work ethic, natural curiosity and drive – qualities that ensured progression through a variety of roles in my career with the society. The same holds true for people who are with us now.

How long have you been at the Co-op?

Twenty-five years – and have loved every minute.

What’s the best part about being at the top?

Satisfaction in watching others explore, develop and progress. Pride in being able to make a difference.

Eating lunch.

How do you travel to work?

Sometimes walk, sometimes drive. Depends on my schedule for that day – and the weather!

How many hours do you put in a day?

Too many or not enough – it depends on how you look at it.

What’s your favourite gadget?

The smart phone is incredibly useful but it can also be intrusive if you allow it to be.
