Free fruit for children at town supermarket in healthy-eating campaign

Tesco at Alliance has announced it is trialling a free-fruit policy like many Tesco stores across the UK. Any child under 12 can take a piece of fruit while shopping with an adult in the store opposite Sand Street car park.

Zed Stott, the supermarket manager, said: ‘After all the sweets consumed by kids over Halloween and Bonfire night and the looming selection boxes and advent calendars for Christmas, we thought it might help parents if we could offer their children fresh fruit to eat while shopping in our store.

The trial started on Monday and will run until 31 December this year.
