The annual Durrell Dash attracted both experienced and novice runners who completed either a 6 km distance or a more challenging 13 km.

The parish honorary police were out in force to enable runners of all ages and stages of fitness to enjoy their early morning run, which began and ended in the grounds of the wildlife park.

Paddy Haversham-Quaid, Durrell’s events manager, said: ‘The Durrell Dash is increasingly popular with both local runners and visitors to the Island. The money generated by this event is vital in assisting us in our mission of saving species from extinction.

‘We are really grateful to sponsors Rathbones, the Jersey Tri Club and the honorary police for their involvement in organising the Dash by measuring and marking the routes, and of course we couldn’t do this without the help of volunteers.’

Awards were presented for the top three in each Dash and to the best-dressed runners and all those taking part were given a special T-shirt to remind them of their contribution.
