Nine cars abandoned on green lane

Following a number of complaints from residents about cars being left on Les Ruisseaux, Grand Vaux, the Honorary Police found that nine cars were parked in a line causing an obstruction on the 15 mph road.

Residents believed that due to the condition of the cars that they had been left abandoned for a number of weeks.

Members of the Honorary Police put a notice on the windscreen of all nine cars informing the registered owner or driver that the positioning of the car was causing an obstruction and that the vehicle appeared to have been abandoned because of its condition.

The owners of the vehicles were also sent a letter and given a ‘reasonable amount of time’ to arrange for their car to be removed, or ‘enforcement action would be taken’, St Helier Honorary Police said.

However, some owners responded to the parish asking for more time to move their car because they had broken down.

In a statement, the Honorary Police said: ‘Clearly we are not in a position to sanction such requests, if a vehicle is broken down then the place for it is a garage or a private driveway.

‘This is not activity which is revenue generated, it is in response to complaints received from residents and visitors to the area as the conduct was impacting upon them’

Six of the cars were removed a short time later, however the three that remain in Les Ruisseaux have been given a number of parking tickets and will be removed under the Removal of Vehicles (Jersey) Order if the owners do not take action.
