The mercury shot to its peak at around 3 pm making it the hottest June day since records began over 120 years ago.

And the rising temperature fell just 3°C degrees short of the highest figure ever recorded in the Island.

On 9 August 2003 temperatures reached 36°C.

Jersey’s hot weather even eclipsed some of the well-known sun traps around the globe.

The temperatures record at Maison St Louis exceeded the likes of Alicante, the Seychelles and Miami and fell just short of those in Dubai and Madrid.

Philip Johnson, duty forecaster for Jersey Met, said the hot weather is due to continue in the foreseeable future.

‘It hit 33°C which made it the warmest June day ever-recorded.

‘The temperature today is expected to be a little bit down on yesterday, there is some fog and thunderstorms around.

‘But it should reach 28°C or 29°C and tomorrow it will be down too but Friday we should expect to break the 30°C mark again.’
