Pentagon forced to close timber frame workshop in St Saviour

The company is due to shut its St Saviour timber frame and truss workshop, which manufactures wooden structures for homes.

Sales executive Elliot Le Feuvre said that three of the department’s nine employees had decided to leave the company and that the business would work to redeploy the remaining six within Pentagon’s wider operation.

The workshop is expected to continue its operation for three to four months to fulfil existing orders, but will not be quoting for any new business.

Mr Elliot explained that the decision to close the unit had been taken because the business was not receiving a high enough volume of trade.

‘It is only the timber frame and truss department that is closing,’ he added.

‘It basically wasn’t working – we are geared up for large volumes and there isn’t any volume around.

‘We are trying to absorb employees from the department, but three of the staff have already taken it upon themselves to move on.’

When asked whether it was possible that the operation may resume at some stage in the future, Mr Le Feuvre said that the business would not rule anything out, but that it was too early at the moment to comment.

Once the operations at the workshop stop, the site will still be used by Pentagon for storage.

‘At one time we were doing 250 houses per year, making them locally, but due to the recession that figure reduced dramatically,’ he said.

‘In one of our worst years it went down to 30 to 40 homes.

‘Things came back up last year, but it’s big volume we are after and that’s not around at the moment.’

Announcing the closure on Facebook, the company also thanked its current and former clients.
