Parishioners of St Martin – what do you want to do with the old school?

A consultation has been launched to give those who live in the parish a chance to voice their opinions on how the site and building, which are due to be handed back to St Martin in November, should be developed.

The parish’s new primary school, which is being built next to the existing site, is due to be in use from September.

A project team comprising members of the parish, authorities from the St Martin administration, consultants HLG Associates and property advisors Guy Gothard & Co are due to collect parishioners’ views about how the plot could be used.

Constable Michel Le Troquer said it was likely that the new community facility would need to be self-funding and may require a commercial element.

‘We want to get things right first time,’ he said. ‘I don’t want the parish to have an empty building that it has to look after. Some sort of health facility is looking popular, according to those who have replied to the survey so far, but we will not be able to please everybody and we do not have all the answers.’

Suggestions about the future use of the site must be returned to St Martin’s Public Hall by 30 June. An online version of the survey can be accessed through the St Martin parish website.

Mr Le Trocquer added: ‘The feedback will be crucial in helping to guide the parish with its next steps. I urge everybody to use this opportunity to have their say on the future of the site.’

Furniture deliveries have continued today! We have also been testing our wireless and wired networks.
