Cabbies prove there’s more than one way to advertise

The signs, measuring 8ft by 4ft, were spotted by planning officers on their way to work and the company was asked to take them down as they did not have a permit.

Instead of taking them down, however, the drivers covered them up with black bin bags and applied for a retrospective permit for the billboards.

In the meantime, to continue advertising their business the company has put a small van on the site in front of the covered up adverts with an A-frame billboard attached to it.

Roy Boschat, who put up the signs, said: ‘In the worst tourist season I can remember we are just a few locals advertising what we do. We are just trying to make a living during these tough times.’

Keith Bray, a compliance officer with the Planning Department, declined to comment on Call A Cab’s latest move but confirmed that they did not need planning permission for the van.
