To the delight of the large crowd at the Weighbridge, Abyu crossed the finish line in two hours, 24 minutes and 45 seconds to beat the previous best mark of 2.29.05 by Andrew Hennessy, the latter who was sidelined through injury this time.
Women’s winner Shona Crombie-Hicks, a Scotland international, broke the tape in exactly the same time as her course record of last year – 2.53.36.
Triathlete Dan Halksworth was first Jersey runner home and Sara Collins was first local woman.
Thousands of Islanders turned out to support or run the marathon, relay or JEP fun run in weather which, after Saturday’s pouring rain, was near-perfect.
