A YELLOW wind warning has been issued for the Channel Islands just days after strong winds disrupted ferry services and a vessel capsized in Gorey Harbour.
Jersey Met issued the latest warning at 8.32am today, with south-westerly Force 6 winds expected to develop later, particularly in the north of the Channel Islands shipping area.
Forecasters warned that disruption to sea travel was possible, while boats moored in exposed locations could also be at risk of damage.
The warning follows a blustery bank-holiday weekend which saw DFDS cancel a number of sailings between Jersey, St Malo and Poole as winds strengthened to Force 6 to 7 and seas became rough.
A vessel also capsized on its mooring in Gorey Harbour over the weekend. Jersey Coastguard attended and said there were no welfare concerns or evidence that the vessel had caused pollution, with its owners making arrangements for its recovery.
The latest stronger winds are expected “later”, which Jersey Met defines as more than 12 hours after the warning was issued.
Islanders have been advised to check the latest forecast.
