Private motorised transport is essential for most people

I WOULD like to congratulate those responsible for creating the bus lane in front of the Pomme d’Or Hotel to give the buses easier access to the eastern routes.

Can we now have a further sensible move by re-opening Broad Street to traffic? You only have to look at the effect closing La Colomberie has had on what was once a vibrant street to see what will happen to Broad Street. A similar situation has happened in New Street, where, since it’s cutting off to traffic, all the interesting small businesses have disappeared, unable to make a living due to the lack of passing trade.

Private motorised transport is essential for the vast majority of people. Not all of us are able to cycle or walk long distances laden with what has been purchased and buses, which I use regularly, are not necessarily the solution. We don’t want to arrive at a situation where the town is cut off to those who live outside of
it.
