NUMBER plate J69 sold for a record-breaking £230,000 at auction yesterday.
It is the most that has ever been paid for a two-digit plate in Jersey.
The registration mark, assigned to a 2012 Peugeot, smashed the previous two-digit record of £139,000 for J72 in August 2022.
J69 was the second lot up for grabs during a general auction held by Simon Drieu & Co on Wednesday morning.
The £230,000 price tag also makes it the second-highest selling license plate sold in Jersey.

Auctioneer Simon Drieu said there had been “a real buzz” at yesterday’s auction.
“We had about four of five people bidding on it [J69],” he added.
“There was a fair amount of interest.”
Asked why number plates attracted such interest, Mr Drieu previously said that the prestige of having a low-digit number assigned to a vehicle was attractive to some.
“In other cases, they are simply purchased as an investment as they are offering fantastic financial returns,” he added.
It is not the first time that J69 has made headlines, having previously sold for £103,000 in 2020.
The overall auction record remains with the Lieutenant-Governor’s J4, which sold for £380,000 in 2020.
