ISLANDERS will have a chance to share their views on the future of the Victoria Marine Lake at a public meeting this week.

St Helier Deputy Inna Gardiner is hosting the session on Thursday (5 June) from 17:00 to 18:00 at the First Tower Community Centre, to restart the conversation around restoring the once-popular bathing pool on the Waterfront.

The 128-year-old marine lake – which was built to mark Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee – has been closed since 2019, when tidal damage caused a large breach in the wall.

Though previously refurbished in 2012, the scale of structural problems meant the long-term repair project stalled, and the lake has since fallen into disuse.

Deputy Gardiner said she wanted to gauge public appetite for reviving the site, similar to efforts at Havre des Pas Lido.

Campaigners, together known as the Save the Tidal Pool group, have welcomed the move but said time is running out to act before the lake deteriorates further.
