RUE du Conet in St Brelade has been named Jersey’s most scenic lane for 2024 in an environmental competition organised by the Société Jersiaise.
Almost all parishes entered a lane last year to be judged on certain criteria, such as the mix of biodiversity, features, overall ambience and branchage.
Rue du Conet is a winding lane that connects Route de Francfief with Rue de Pont Marquet, where it emerges in the valley not far from the Railway Walk’s traffic light pedestrian crossing. In a close competition, theSociété Jersiaise chose the lane for its diverse range of habitats, the view and an abundance of animal life.

The organisation also noted the Parish of St Brelade’s use of herbicides, and that workers perform the branchage by hand, rather than using mechanical strimmers that can cause more damage.
It is not the first time Rue du Conet has taken the prized scenic lane title; it also won in 2009.
Société president Stuart Fell presented a plaque to the Constable of St Brelade, Mike Jackson, along with the parish team, led by municipal services manager Philip Chevalier.
Ten parishes put themselves forward for the award.
Neither 2023 winners St Lawrence nor St Clement entered last year following widespread damage caused by Storm Ciarán in November 2023.
The event was sponsored by Rotary Club de la Manche and the judges were from the Environment Department, the Société Jersiaise, the National Trust for Jersey, the RJHAS and the U3A (University of the Third Age).
