Islanders interested in strapping into the rear cockpit of one of the most iconic Second World War fighter planes still have a chance to do so this year…
Spitfires.com will be bringing their operation back to Jersey from 17 to 19 July.
The unique business, which enables paying passengers to fly around the Island in a two-seat Spitfire, recently concluded a series of flights timed to coincide with the Liberation Day celebrations.
Islander Sanna Larsson, who got behind the controls of a Spitfire after winning an All Island Media competition, said: “I thought it was amazing – just incredible.”
She added: “If I could do it over and over again, I’d love to.”
Flights can be booked online at www.spitfires.com/spitfire-flights or by calling Spitfires.com on 01243 531147.
Guernsey flights are also available from 5 to 8 June and 7 to 9 August.
Flights will be conducted from the Jersey Aero Club and the Guernsey Aero Club, and cost £3,500 for 30 minutes and £5,000 for 45 minutes flight experience.
A hand-picked cadre of pilots command the Spitfire from the front seat, with passengers strapped into the rear in their own cockpit, which is kitted out with a full set of controls – as they will have the opportunity to fly the legendary aircraft for a short time themselves.
